I am a Christian and that by the grace of God.

I was raised to go to church and in my childhood attended church mostly
because I had to. As a young person, I went to church primarily for
something to do. Shortly before my sixteenth birthday, I was in a service
and not paying much attention, as was the usual case. Just as we were
standing up to sing the closing hymn, I was suddenly overcome with the
knowledge of my sin debt and the need I had for a Savior from that sin. It
was at that point I was brought to faith in Jesus as Savior.

That conviction was not something I brought upon myself because I
assure you I was not seeking it.

I believe God is sovereign over all. I also believe man is responsible for his
behavior and decisions. I don’t comprehend how these two truths can
coexist but that does not keep them from being true. My finite mind will
never comprehend all the workings of the Infinite. The truths of scripture
are not bound by my limited understanding.

I know when a person takes a stand for his belief; those who make it their
aim to find some fault in him and prove him to be phony sometimes place
a “bulls-eye” on his chest.

Allow me to save time and energy for those who would seek to find fault in
me. I have plenty of faults and failings for myself and plenty to share. I don’
t claim to be perfect and never will.

I do claim to be a follower of Christ and my goal is to live in such a way as
to bring glory to God. However, this does not make me any “better” than
anyone else. Apart from the grace of God, I am nothing.

A friend suggested I put more of my faith confession in my statement
declaring my candidacy. I appreciate his interest and understand his
motive. However, in the world today we are bombarded by people and
businesses who loudly claim to be believers, but as we get to know them
or do business with them, we see their actions do not match their claims.
It seems they use their “faith” to gain people’s trust.

I do not want to be seen as that type of person, so I put this information on
a separate page so a visitor can make his own decision whether to read it.
If you are here, I assume you are interested.

As we get to know each other, it is my hope that you will see I am who I
claim to be, and that by the grace of God alone.
